Music and Motherhood
A music therapy group for
post-natal women and their babies

Welcome
Music and Motherhood offers relaxed group sessions for new mums and their babies, using music to support wellbeing, connection and adjustment during the early months of parenthood.
The post-partum period can be joyful, overwhelming, isolating and emotionally complex — often all at once. Research increasingly shows that music can play a powerful role in supporting maternal mental health, helping to regulate mood, reduce stress, encourage bonding and create moments of calm and connection between parent and baby.
Led by two qualified Music Therapists (and Mums ourselves!) sessions draw on approaches including group singing, therapeutic songwriting, musical improvisation, receptive listening and meditation, vocal work and attunement-based musical interaction.
Babies are warmly welcomed as part of the sessions, with opportunities to use music as a way of communicating, connecting and strengthening the parent–infant relationship. Alongside the therapeutic elements, sessions also offer space for conversation, reflection and a chance to get to know other mums, over a cup of tea.

"Attending Music and Motherhood every week has provided us a safe space to come to when I was feeling so incredibly alone and trapped at home - an hour a week in an environment I know my baby will be happy, content and stimulated by the music and surroundings."
"Having Music and Motherhood on a Tuesday has helped shape the blurry beginnings of motherhood, and for that I am so grateful. I've absolutely loved every week, from the genuine thought-provoking themes, to beautiful live music. A safe space to cry, be myself and the best bit: having met some lovely friends along the way"
"I started attending Music and Motherhood when my daughter was just 3 weeks old. The sessions were an absolute highlight of my maternity leave and one of the most nurturing parts of our early months together. Thank you Sophie and Mae for giving us such a magical introduction to music and the connection with other mums that it allowed."
